AN INTERVIEW WITH CONNOR SCHOFIELD: JAWS

SIMPLICITY, JAWS’ SOPHOMORE ALBUM CAME OUT ONE YEAR AGO TODAY. READ OUR INTERVIEW WITH FRONT-MAN CONNOR, AHEAD OF THEIR UPCOMING TOUR.

A YEAR ago today, Jaws released their follow up to 2014’s “Be Slowly”. “Simplicity” was a different and more adventurous outing for the Birmingham based three piece. Now, after a year, Jaws are heading back out on tour to celebrate “Simplicity” and its success.

What do you like about playing Newcastle?
I love coming back to Newcastle, sounds a little bit cliche but the crowd are always really up for it, there’s always a good energy in the city too.

What kind of tracks will you be playing on this tour? A mix of Simplicity and Be Slowly? Or maybe some new material?
Yeah just a mix of everything really, probably bring back some older stuff. new material is being worked on, not ready for the world to hear yet.

How do you think Simplicity has been received? A year on since its release?
Well, the live shows are generally a lot more energetic now so i think its gone been received pretty well, which is nice because we put a lot of work into that album so its really cool to see that kind of reaction.

You’re heading back out on the road, is there anything you take with you to relax or as a personal comfort?
As long as i have my headphones i know i can escape the madness at any second, thats it really

You have a few bands joining you on this tour, what do you like about those bands?
They’re all really great and i can’t wait to see them play most nights, we like to try and choose bands we genuinely are into or we feel will go down well with our crowd.

You tweeted Isaac Wright (Bran, GoT) about his plans for December 1st, have you heard anything back from him yet?
No we got blanked, I’ll still put him on the Guest list just incase.

Moving on, what are your plans for the rest of 2017? Is it just this tour or have you got some surprises in store?
Just this tour and a few show with The Twang in December, no surprises unfortunately.

I know Connor, you have your own clothing brand, does that influence Jaws merchandise?
It actually doesn’t, i really try to keep the two completely separate. we generally have a good idea of whats going to look good or bad with jaws merch without trying to push it any particular direction.

Finally, do you have anything to say to the people coming to your Newcastle gig?
SEE YOU THERE I CAN’T WAIT!

JAWS have announced a fresh run of UK dates that will extend their Simplicity Tour into the Winter months of 2017. JAWS take in Newcastle’s Riverside onĀ Sunday November 26.
