AN INTERVIEW WITH – MATTIE VANT

BRITISH rock back VANT are heading to Newcastle’s The Cluny as part of the Dr Martens tour. Plugged In caught up with the indie rockers to find out a bit more about their new music and live shows.

You’re heading out on the DR Martens tour…how did that come about?

They approached us and it was a great excuse to come home and play one of our favourite venues.

The tour sees you stopping at Newcastle’s Cluny…what do you make of the venue?

I’ve played The Cluny loads of times. I started off in North East bands and it’s such a staple of the local scene. The show we played there on our last tour was by far the best Newcastle gig I’ve ever played, and we sold it out!

HOMECOMING: VANT are heading to The Cluny

What can fans coming to see you expect from your set? Will there be new music/new album tracks, maybe?

Yeah, absolutely. We’ve announced the date of the release (17.02.17) and we’re excited to preview it on this tour. Expect loud, honest condemnations of our forever failing political and societal systems.

How have fans reacted to your latest single ‘Peace and Love’ when played live? Has there been a lot of positive reception?

It’s been overwhelming. The video is coming any minute now and we’re really proud of how it’s turned out. It’s a real statement. We finished writing it in the wake of the Paris attacks (although it’s not about them). We’ve forgotten the meaning of the words ‘Peace & Love’.

Your current tour with You Me At Six saw you stopping at Middlesbrough Empire…were you familiar with the town/venue? And what are you expecting the crowd to be like?

We’ve always had manic crowds in Middlesbrough, so I was expecting nothing different this time round.

VANT’s Cluny show is on Saturday November 12th and you can buy tickets here.
